The SP Genevac HT Series 3i is a centrifugal evaporator for laboratories that need to dry or concentrate a large number of samples per run. Two models are available — HT-6 and HT-12 — to suit different sample capacities. Both have an integral condenser, so the whole system takes up less fume-hood space than an equivalent with a separate condenser.
What sets it apart
- SampleGuard measures the real sample temperature — up to four thermocouples with a battery-powered wireless transmitter, so it works at all rotor speeds including LyoSpeed. One or two probes reliably determine end-of-run and let the system stop automatically, protecting samples from overheating once evaporation is complete and removing much of the method-development effort.
- Dri-Pure anti-bumping, fitted as standard — SP Genevac’s patented sample protection system prevents cross-contamination and sample loss due to bumping.
- Integral VC7000i condenser chilling to -75 °C with auto-defrost and drain, so mixtures of solvents with very different boiling points can be evaporated without spoiling the vacuum.
- LyoSpeed — dry powders from HPLC fractions. Fractions are automatically concentrated down to a few millilitres, then frozen and rapidly lyophilized into a diffuse dry powder that is easier to weigh and re-dissolve than a dried film. Methods are supplied for fractions containing water with acetonitrile, or methanol.
- eXALT for evaporative crystallization studies — a wide range of solvents can be evaporated at the same slow rate at the same time; DCM and toluene, for example, can be dried together. Evaporation time is controllable from 6 to 120 hours, or longer.
- Touchscreen control with preset methods. Select the solvent group and press start. User login personalizes method screens, data logging capacity is increased, and methods and system back-ups transfer over USB.
Options for aggressive solvents
- Inert Gas Purge (IGP) — mandatory when working with highly explosive solvents such as diethyl ether or pentane. The system flushes all air out before evaporation starts and replaces it with nitrogen or argon, and can keep sensitive samples under a gas blanket after the run until the operator removes them.
- HCl-resistant option — for hydrochloric acid and other acid chlorides, with key elements engineered in Hastelloy, glass or PTFE. It must be specified when ordering, as it cannot be retrofitted.
- Infinity Trolley — a modular trolley system; units can be joined side by side to create an HT-24 or HT-36 while minimising fume-hood footprint. The upper shelf holds the evaporator, the lower shelf the pump and waste containers.
