The SP Genevac Rocket Synergy 2 is a high speed evaporator for large-volume samples. It dries or concentrates up to six flasks, each holding a maximum of 450 ml of solvent, or 18 ASE vials, with no user intervention or attention. The removable flask rotor can be swapped for a 5 litre 316 stainless steel vessel for batch processing. The manufacturer rates it five times faster than other “intelligent” evaporators, and a single Rocket is capable of replacing several rotary evaporators — reclaiming valuable bench space.
How it works — heat without heating the sample
Using a single, common vacuum pump, the Rocket creates two vacuum environments. A low vacuum causes the solvents in the sample to boil at a low temperature, often below 0 °C. A second vacuum environment boils deionised water to make low-temperature, low-pressure steam. Because the boiling solvent cools the flask, that steam condenses on the cold outer surface of the flask or vessel, releasing energy into the sample to speed evaporation without heating the samples themselves. Condensed steam is thrown off by the rotational force and re-boiled to make more steam.
For the automatic stop, Rocket software compares the coolant temperature entering the condenser with the temperature of that leaving it. The difference (Delta T) is proportional to the flow rate of solvent vapour entering the condenser; as samples approach concentration or dryness, the change is used to determine the auto-stop point.
Key features
- No monitoring or intervention required — load your samples, select the method, press start and walk away
- Eliminates foaming, bumping and cross-contamination
- Auto-draining frost-free solvent condenser collects all solvents as liquids, even volatile organics; plastic-coated glass for safety and visibility
- Strobe viewing window lets each of the six flask positions be watched separately in real time, without stopping to open the lid
- Direct drive motor reaching 500 x gravity or more, to control boiling and help eliminate bumping and foaming
- USB upload of new methods and software, and download of recorded data
Flexible sample holder options
- 450 ml evaporation flasks for drying or concentrating up to 450 ml of solvent.
- 250 ml SampleGenie dries the sample directly into vials from 12 mm to 28 mm diameter and up to 70 mm tall, eliminating manual transfers.
- 400 ml SampleGenie concentrates the sample directly into 2 ml GC autosampler vials. The vial is protected from the steam, so only the solvent in the flask evaporates.
- Puck lets up to 18 ASE vials be dried in one operation, in place of flasks.
- Flip-Flop — a double-ended tube with SampleGenie adaptor and 2 ml GC vial, used with the Puck to concentrate ASE samples directly into a GC vial.
- 250 ml evaporation bottles for drying and storing samples in the same vessel.
